General Information

Plants epiphytic, caespitose to creeping. Roots numerous, frequently branched, 0.5-1 mm diam. Rhizomes robust, often elongate, covered with scarious bracts. Stems pseudobulbous, ovoid, compressed, to 3.5 cm long, 2.5 cm wide. Leaves several, petiolate, coriaceous, linear-oblong, to 40 cm long, 2.5 cm wide; apical leaf solitary; lateral leaves 2 to several. Inflorescences numerous, lateral, single-flowered, peduncles 2-5 cm long; floral bracts aciculate, 15-17 mm long. Flowers red or red-orange, resupinate. Pedicellate ovary slender, ca. 3 cm long. Sepals ovate, acuminate, 10-12 mm long, 3-5.5 mm wide; dorsal sepal 7-nerved; lateral sepals 5-nerved, attached to the column foot, forming a short mentum. Petals ovate, acuminate, 9-10 mm long, 3-4 mm wide. Lip rigid, fleshy, trilobed, to 8 mm long; lateral lobes erect and flanking the column, obliquely oblong; middle lobe ovatelanceolate to ovate-triangular, geniculate just beyond the tip of the column; disc yellow, callus thick, fleshy; base concave, nectariferous. Column short, stout, semiterete, 3-4 mm long. Fruits beaked, ellipsoidal, 1.5-2 cm long.
