Description

2-3(-10) m high supporting shrubs; grooved stems, laxly pubescent to glabrous, woolly shoots. Leaves petiolate, elliptical, elliptical-lanceolate or lanceolate, 10- 20 × 5-11 cm, serrated or denticulated, glabrous or subglabrous in the beam, pubescent on the underside. Large chapters, long pedunculated, arranged in terminal corymbiform cymes and in the axil of the upper leaves forming a wide and showy subnaked paniculiform inflorescence; subulate bracts, inconspicuous. Hemispheric involvement, 10-12 × 12-15 mm; filarios in 6-8 sets, the external ones on the peduncle, scary, lustrous, brown, with a lighter marginal band, glabrous, the inmates lanceolate or with a rounded apex, the remaining ovate, subacute, with a dark and protruding medial vein near apex and sometimes terminated in a small mucron. Flowers Numerous; purple, violet or pale lilac-corollas. Achenes 3-3.5 mm long, sides, hairy. Yellowish Papus.
