Distribution: From central Mexico to southern tropical America and Trinidad. (2). In Costa Rica it is distributed between 0–800 (1100) meters above sea level in areas of dry, humid and very humid forest, in forests and savannahs. Caribbean Slope: Central Volcanic Mountain Range, Los Guatusos and San Carlos Plains and Baja Talamanca. Pacific Slope: Cordilleras of Guanacaste, Tilarán and Talamanca, North of Fila Costeña, plains of Guanacaste, Nicoya Peninsula, surroundings of Orotina, Carara NP, Valleys of General and Coto Brus, Golfo Dulce, Caño Island. (1)

Description: Liana or shrub escandente. Leaves 4–23 × 2–10 cm, simple, alternate with rough leaf blades on both sides and with tertiary veins reticulated. Pubescent twigs. Inflorescences 5–11 cm with aromatic yellow-green to yellow or orange flowers. Fruits 0.4–0.6 cm yellow to orange that open exposing with 1 seed covered by white aril. (1)
