Morphology
Grass with globose-flattened bulb 4 cm in diameter; rods 0.5-2.4 m high and 1 cm in diameter. at the base, robust, erect, ± fleshy, branched, longitudinally striated, glabrous, sometimes bearing in the axils of the upper leaves small ovoid propagules, 4 mm long.' Leaves' with ovate-oblong stipules, rounded at the apex, 4-10 (15) mm long, membranous, entire, glabrous, evergreen; petiole (3.5) 9-20 cm long, robust, glabrous, with a ring of cilia at the insertion of the blade; blade obliquely ovate, asymmetrical, obliquely cordate at the base, with one atrium more developed than the other, often abruptly caudate-acuminate at the apex, 6-20 cm long and 4-15 cm broad, doubly toothed, ciliate, membranous, concolorous in the dry state, appressed-pubescent on both sides; basal veins 7-9, prominent below; lateral veins 4-5 pairs, branched and terminating in the teeth, projecting below. Inflorescences in axillary cymes, 1-sexual or sometimes 2-sexual, multiflora, glabrous; peduncle 1.2-6 cm long; bracts ovate, 1.5 mm long, deciduous.' Flowers ♂ with pedicel 1-3 cm long, slender; tepals 4, pink, glabrous, the outer ones broadly ovate to orbicular, 1.7-3.5 cm long and broad, the inner ones obovate or obovate-cuneate, 1-2 cm long and 0.6-1 cm broad; stamens 1-∞, with connective globose exceeding the anthers; free threads, 1.5-3.5 mm long; anthers ovate-ellipsoid to subglobose, rounded at the apex 0.8-1.4 mm long and 0.7-1.4 mm broad, longitudinally dehiscence. Flowers ♀ with pedicel 1-2 cm long; tepals (4)5, pink; the outer ones obovate to orbicular, 1-1.3 cm long and 0.8-1.3 cm wide; the internal oblong-linear, 7-8 mm long and 2-4 mm wide; ovary ellipsoid, 7-10 mm long and 5 mm broad, 3-celled, with 3 unequal, triangular wings, completely surrounding the ovary and slightly protruding from the apex; 3 styles, lightly welded to the base; stigmas forked and with divided branches; stigmatic areas spiral and confluent at the base; placentas central, bifid. Capsules with pedicel up to 3.5 cm long, ovoid-ellipsoid, 1.5-2.5 cm long and 1.5-2 cm wide; capsules with wings up to 3 cm long and 4.5 cm wide at the top; wings 3, unequal, completely surrounding the capsule and slightly protruding from the apex.

Undergrowth of mountain rain forests, clearings; between 1,890 and 2,100 m above sea level).
