Poulsenia armata is a species of plant in the Moraceae family. Some of its common names are: abababite, (Guatemala) carnero (Mexico), tumu (Honduras, Nicaragua), cocua, mastate (Panama), corbon, cucua, (Colombia), majagua (Ecuador).​

Classification and description

Very large trees 25 to 40 m tall and with a diameter of 60 to 100 cm, often with very high tabular roots of more than 4 to 5 m; outer bark finely rough or fissured, brown brown or gray-brown, inner with cream or pale brown bands; yellowish-white latex with the consistency of chewing gum when drying; branches armed with stingers. Leaves whole, sometimes edged with stingers; veins pinnatinervated, 5–8 secondary nerves ascending, prominent on the bundle and underside, tertiary reticulated to scalariform, gently prominent on the underside; blade oblong, sometimes elliptical, glabrous or sometimes with a few simple hairs scattered on the underside, leathery, subcoriaceous to cartoucheous 4–13 x 9–24 cm; apex acuminate or apiculate; base obtuse, rounded sometimes asymmetrical; petiole up to 2 cm in length, with the presence of stipulous stingers up to 3.5 cm in length, sometimes with stingers, dark green to bright yellowish upper side and pale green underside with prominent veins and small, short, sharp spines along the nerves. Male inflorescences in globose or subglobose heads, axillary, pedunculated 0.5–2 cm long, flowers free or connate at the base with 4 sepals and 4 stamens free, filaments 3–6 mm long, anthers 0.7–1.6 x 0.7–1.2 mm, bracts oblong or linear up to 1.5 mm long. Female inflorescences in fascicles, sub-sessile or pedunculated up to 1 cm in length with 3–9 flowers subtended by fleshy bracts, ovary super-2–3 mm in length, filiform style ca. 5 mm in length, stigma (0.2) 3–7 mm in length. Infructescence 1–4 cm in diameter; perianth fruiting 1.5–2 cm long, with yellowish warts, drupaceous fruits 1.3–1.8 x 1–1.5 (2) cm, with bracts up to 1 cm long.
