섬잣나무 '오곤자노메'-[정명] Pinus parviflora 'Ogon-Janome'식물/들꽃-소나무과(Pinaceae) 2024. 12. 5. 13:25
'Ogon Janome' is a compact, slow growing variegated Japanese pine. The needle color is blue-green with bands of yellow. When viewed from the branch tips, the yellow pattern resembles an eye.
Morphology:
This is dwarf conifer that forms a broad upright cone that attains a height of 8 feet and a width of 6 feet at full maturity. This type of growth will only occur in northern latitudes on well drained acidic soil. Needles are born in bundles of 5.
Adaptation:
'Ogon Janome' can be grown in full sun, but partial afternoon shade is best. However, too much shade results in a leggy plant with less color.Dragon’s Eye Japanese White Pine - Pinus parviflora 'Ogon Janome' - PNW Plants (wsu.edu)
Pinus parviflora ‘Ogon Janome’ is an incredibly beautiful plant. This rare, mid-size, “Dragon’s Eye” form of Japanese White Pine exhibits tasteful variegation, like yellow bands on the needles. After seeing a specimen of this pine, even those who typically prefer plants without variegation rave about it.
Garden Size: 10’H x 8’W

Broad Upright
Pinus parviflora ‘Ogon Janome’ - Iseli Nursery
I love the Japanese white pines. 'Ogon janome' is a yellow variegated form of Pinus parviflora that has a dragon's eye-like band of variegation. In fact, this selection was cultivated in Japan for years under the name Pinus parviflora 'Oculus draconis' which translates from lating as Dragon's Eye. 'Ogon janome' is quite different from other dragon's eye forms as the shape is broadly pyramidal, reaching 10 ft in height by 6 ft in width in 10 years.
