Image example: Fig. 10, accompanying the protologue on the back page taken by Norihiko Shimada of Japan. A var.rouxiiwith radiant green outer patterns.
This is a stabilised strain of var.rouxiiwith a subtle green colour concentrated around the margins. It originated from the Gunsen-en Nursery (the House of Shimada) and was in Japanese cultivation for some time before being known to the “west”. It was established by Norihiko Shimada in theJapan Succulent Society Journalvol. 515, p. 14 (2018), where the description was in Japanese. The stitch-like markings so distinctive in var.rouxiiseem particularly ornate in this otherwise normal, white flowering cultivar.
