Sphalmanthus humilis, L.Bolus.This member of the Aizoaceae family was given this name by Maike Gerbaulet in 1997. It's found in southern South Africa, where it grows in grit with little water and quite some sun. The caudex can grow to four centimetres in diameter and the plant up to fifteen centimetres in height. The flowers are white to yellow, and beside from seeds, it can also be reproduced by cuttings.
The genera name from Latin Phyllo; 'leaf' and bolus; 'a large pill'. The species is named after Dean William Herbert, a 19th century British bulb taxonomist.
