Plant flowering over 1 m high. Leaves to 6 dm long; sheaths suborbicular, laxly serrulate, glabrous toward base; blades very narrowly triangular, 30-35 mm wide, very laxly serrate with slender curved spines 3 mm long, near the base covered with a pale membrane of fused scales, elsewhere glabrous. Scape stout, brown-lanate; scape-bracts erect, the lower subfoliaceous, the upper narrowly triangular, longer or shorter than the internodes. Inflorescence simple or few-branched, sublaxly flowered, very densely dark brown-lanate throughout. Floral bracts broadly ovate, short-acuminate, 8-20 mm long, entire, the lower about equaling the sepals; flowers subsessile, spreading. Sepals elliptic, acute, to 15 mm long, the margins wholly obscured by the indument; petals slightly exceeding the sepals, narrowly elliptic and without a distinct claw, orange, lanate dorsally; stamens included, the filaments free above the short common tube with the petals; style simple, very short.
