Primula nipponica is a perennial herb of the genus Primula in the family Primroseaceae. Alpine plants.
The scientific name means "Japan primrose".Features
The rhizome is short, on which 5-10 leaves grow in bunches. The leaves are obovate, fleshy, 2-4 cm long and 1-1.5 cm wide, with 5-9 large serrations at the tips. Hairless throughout.
The flowering period is from June to July. The height of the flower stalk is 7-15 cm, and 2-8 flowers are attached to the tip. The bracts are linear and grow at the end of the flower stalk. The calyx is deeply five-lobed. The corolla is white and 1 cm in diameter, the throat is yellow, 5 deep lobes, and the sepals are 2 shallowly lobed. The fruit is a fruit with a diameter of 3 mm.
Distribution and growing conditions
Japan specialty. It is distributed in the northeastern region of Honshu, with Mt. Nishiazuma as the southern limit and Mt. Hakkoda as the northern limit. It grows in subalpine marshes, snowy meadows, and moist grasslands in snowy areas. Mt. Chokai is the reference specimen production area.
It is not distributed in Mt. Hayaikemine and Mt. Iwaki.
