This strange and beautiful shrub is a member of the obscure Myodocarpaceae, and is found growing on ultramafic soils (soils excessively rich in heavy metals) in southern New Caledonia. It forms a spreading crown with tufts of spoon-shaped, light green leaves that have a prominent yellow midrib. Myodocarpus crassifolius easily adapts to cultivation and without doubt makes an awesome ornamental. It prefers full sun and appreciates regular moisture.
