Cunonia macrophylla is an endemic shrub of the southern half of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It is found in shrubland at low and medium altitude on ultramafic substrate. This species does not seem globally threatened. Cunonia macrophylla is considered Least Concern (LC).

This species is generally gregarious. It is known from 10-12 subpopulations.HABITAT
It is found in shrubland at low and mid altitude (0-1,200 m asl) on ultramafic substrate.THREATS
This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities (Camp des Sapins, Goro) or bushfires.CONSERVATION
This species is easy to grow in plant nurseries and could be used more often in ecological restoration.
