Chrysanthemum × morifolium 'Symphony'
CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium (SYMPHONY™ PINK)
Botanical Name
CHRYSANTHEMUM x morifolium 'Empire Symphony'(SYMPHONY™ PINK) PP08782
Plant Common Name
Decorative Chrysanthemum
General Description
The double-flowered garden chrysanthemum Symphony™ Pink produces masses of lavender-pink blooms on densely branching, 16- to 20-inch (40 to 50 cm) plants. The 2.5-inch-wide (6 cm) blooms appear in late summer and early fall. This cultivar was bred and selected in the late 1980s by Janet S. Fuess of Empire Mums, New York Mills, New York. It is distinct from the spider mum 'Symphony', which dates from about the same time.
The showy blooms and pungent, lobed leaves of garden chrysanthemums are staples of the autumn flower garden. These herbaceous perennials originated in eastern Asia, where they have been bred and selected for many centuries. Garden mums are customarily planted in late summer for seasonal display.
Like most garden mums, Symphony™ Pink thrives in full sun and a fertile, well-drained growing medium. Although typically planted as a seasonal annual, this garden mums can be used as a border perennial in USDA hardiness zones 6 through 9. Pinch back plants in late spring or early summer to encourage a neater habit and heavier fall flowering.
