General Information and Care: Begonia blancii Mottled is an extremely unique species that Glass Box Tropicals offers. This species was only just discovered in 2010 on Palawan Island in the Philippines. One of the most unique aspects of this species is the thick, succulent, spatulate leaves. Typically, the leaves are 2-3 wide and 3-5 in length. We often recommend this species being a focal point plant as it is so unique and admired. Additionally, in the wild, this species is found growing on rocks. In our experience, it also seems to do well in straight sphagnum as well.
All of the plants of this species that we offer are grown from leaf cuttings, so they all will be the mottled form. When grown from seed, you may get the green or dark form as well. There is still debate on if the three forms are the same or different species.
Glass Box Tropicals Plant Care Rating: 7

Begonia blancii Mottled - GLASS BOX TROPICALS
Begonia blancii is native to the tropical regions of Southeast Asia, mainly the rainforests of Borneo and surrounding islands. This plant grows naturally in moist, shaded environments, often found on the forest floor or on trees and rocks.
In its marbled form, it has oval or heart-shaped leaves with a dark green color marbled by spots or streaks of lighter shades, such as white, cream or pink. This marbled pattern is what makes this variety particularly interesting and decorative.
It also produces flowers, which can be various shades of white, pink or red, and add further ornamental interest to the plant. The flowers often bloom in clusters hanging from the stems of the plant.
This begonia is prized for its ornamental beauty and is grown as a houseplant in many parts of the world. It is suitable for growing in pots or containers inside the home, in a greenhouse or even in tropical terrariums, where it can add a touch of color and liveliness to environments.
Begonia blancii requires a bright but indirect position, and well-drained soil rich in organic substance. It is important to keep the soil moist but not too wet, as begonia roots are susceptible to rot. Furthermore, it will benefit from a humid environment, so periodic misting of the leaves can be useful especially in environments with dry air.
