Found in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, the Windward Islands, Trinidad & Tobago, Fr Guiana, Surinam and Brazil in very wet and pluvial forests at elevations 50 to 1200 meters as a large sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte with a vine like stem carrying elliptic, coriaceous, acuminate leaves tht blooms in the winter on an axillary, .2 to .6" [.5 to 1.5 cm] long, 5 to 8 flowered inflorescence with triangular-ovate floral bracts.

"Vanilla hartii is an interesting species with a weak vegetative habit similar to that of V. bicolor. However, it presents flowers, and especially a penicillate callus with the structure of the V. planifolia group, with which it has been confused." Soto & Cribb 2010

General Information

Hojas 6–12 × 1.4–3.5 cm, elípticas, coriáceas, acuminadas. Infl. axilar, el raquis 0.5–1.5 cm, con 5–8 fls.,las brácteas 0.35–0.8 × 0.25–0.5 cm, triangular-ovadas. Fls. con los sépalos verde-blancuzco, los pétalos y ellabelo blancos; sépalos 3.9–5 × 0.6–0.9 cm, oblanceolados; pétalos 3.9–5 × 0.6–0.8 cm, oblanceolados; la-belo unguiculado, 3.7–4.3 × 1.4–2.5 cm, la uña adnata a la columna, la lámina obovada, ligeramente trilobada,con un callo penicilado ca. 0.4 × 0.3 cm de 7 escamas; columna 3.2–3.3 cm. Frs. 9–14 × 0.4–0.5 cm.
