aka Cryosophila argentea. This is the second most commonly sold and grown species of Cryosophila though how it really differs from the other species is not obviously clear. It is a slow growing, solitary fan palm from southern Mexico, Guatemala and Belize and grows primarily as an understory palm in the higher jungles. Despite its tropical origins it has a good tolerance for cold, handling temps down to about 27F and performs remarkably as an indoor plant despite the low humidity this situation is usually associated with. It has an excellent resistance to spider mites. Leaves are bright green and nearly white on the undersides. This root spine palm tends to only develop its root spines in a tropical location, but does pretty well in southern California anyway.
