Morphology

Filaments definitely ciliated. Carpels 3, covered with a very dense silky indumentum. Flowers 4.5 cm. in diameter, sweetly scented. Sepals blue or mauve; spur 3.5–4 cm. long, more or less simply curved. Leaves variable, blades deeply lobed or segmented, sometimes nearly to base, with the segments varying in width. Final inflorescence branches 6–16 cm. long. An erect herb, 6 to 12 dm. tall, glabrous or pilose-pubescent in lower part, more or less densely pubescent in the upper part and on the inflorescence branches.
