미국산수유 '아우레아'-[정명] Cornus mas 'Aurea'식물/들꽃-층층나무과(Cornaceae) 2025. 1. 25. 13:05
The cornelian cherry 'Aurea' is a variant of the native cornelian cherry. It belongs to the dogwood family and is known to many gardeners as Herlitze or Dürlitze, Gelber Dogriegel or Dirndl shrub. The cornelian cherry originally comes from the Caucasus. The slow-growing (bot.) Cornus mas 'Aurea' grows to a height of about four metres and blooms from March to April before the leaves sprout. The pretty golden-yellow flowers stand in small umbels and smell delicately of honey. This representative of the dogwood family is the purest splendour of flowers in spring with its thousands of flowers! The many yellow flower stars offer a welcome and delicious food for insects. The yellow flowers of the cornelian cherry 'Aurea' develop into shiny red, elongated fruits. They grow up to two centimeters long. The red flesh surrounds a stone core. The sour fruits are edible and have a high vitamin C content. The leaf of Cornus mas 'Aurea' is glossy on the upper side, elliptical-ovate, pointed towards the top and up to ten centimetres long. In autumn, it turns yellow-orange. The decorative deciduous ornamental shrub usually develops several strong basic shoots. They are each between 15 and 20 centimetres thick. The yellowish-brown bark develops into a flaking bark over the years.
The medium-sized woody plant grows upright and is not very branched. Over the years, Cornus mas 'Aurea' develops an expansive width and overhanging branches. The cornelian cherry has the hardest wood in Europe! The cornelian cherry 'Aurea' is beautiful as a solitaire. The cornelian cherry takes pruning without difficulty and sprouts reliably again. Cornus mas 'Aurea' is uncomplicated and frugal, it grows slightly weaker than the wild form and reaches a height of up to 300 cm. The attractive shrub is not picky and is satisfied at any location. The cornelian cherry prefers a sunny to semi-shady location, preferably in warmer areas. Dryness or heat does not bother this beauty. In the wild, the plant likes to grow on dry and calcareous soils. It thrives on both slightly acidic and alkaline soil. The plant does not cope well with waterlogging. With its yellow leaves, beautiful yellowish flower umbels in spring and red fruits, the cornelian cherry 'Aurea' is an attraction in every garden!
