General Information

Plant flowering 2-15 dm high. Leaves rosulate, 13-15 cm long, chartaceous-membranaceous, minutely appressed-lepidote; sheaths ovate; blades sublorate, rounded and apiculate-recurved, 2-7 cm wide. Scape erect; scape-bracts usually imbricate, the lowest subfoliaceous, the others ovate, apiculate. Inflorescence rather dense, narrow, 3-4-pinnate; primary bracts narrowly ovate, acute, 4-6 cm long, exceeding the sterile bases of the branches, membranaceous, sulcate; branches ascending to arched-recurving, 15-20 cm long; axes slightly undulate, glabrous; bracts at base of spikes but little larger than the floral bracts; spikes sessile to short-stipitate, linear, 2-9 cm long, 8-11 mm wide, often bearing many sterile bracts at apex; rhachis strongly angled, more or less geniculate, glabrous. Floral bracts ovate, acute, mostly distinctly shorter than the mature sepals, carinate, sulcate; flowers erect, mostly appressed to the rhachis and barely overlapping the flower next above, subsessile. Sepals slightly asymmetric, oblong, acute, 4-7 mm long, carinate, glabrous outside, sulcate; petals broadly exserted, white. Capsule cylindric, acute with a short beak, 16-30 mm long.
