Rhizome erect or ascending, stoloniferous; rhizome scales 3-5(-9) mm long, 0.8-1 mm wide, bicolorous, central portion or apex shiny red-brown, outer or basal part pale brown, lanceolate, margin entire; fronds clumped; stipe (4-)7-9(-15) cm long, ½-1/3 the frond length, stramineous, papillate, with scattered pale brown scales 2-3 mm long; blade 14-30(-35) cm long, (3-) 4-6(-9) cm wide, pinnatisect, 18-35 pinna pairs, linear, basal pinnae distant and irregularly triangular, apex pinnatifid; rachis stramineous, with rare scales 0.8-1.3 mm long, 0.1-0.3 mm wide, otherwise either glabrous or with dense, 0.3-0.5 mm long, sticky, catenate hairs; largest pinnae 1 -5-3(-5) cm long, 6-8 mm wide at base, 3-4 (-6) mm wide in middle, linear-oblong, straight to somewhat falcate, adnate, auriculate, basal pinnae partially adnate, often deflexed, lower surface glabrous to hairy with scattered catenate hairs (0.1-0.3 mm), upper surface glabrous to hairy with scattered catenate hairs, midvein ungrooved; veins simple to once-forked, enlarged vein endings visible adaxially; pinna margin minutely toothed with intramarginal row of ser-rulations; sori 2/3 or more of pinna length, 0.5 mm wide; indusia erose. Rhizome slender, decumbent to erect, stoloniferous, bearing at apex numerous appressed, lustrous blackish-brown, lanceolate or narrowly deltate scales, these mostly 2-4 mm long and with nanow pale margins. Fronds glabrous, ascending to rather stiffly erect, mostly 10-60 cm long; stipes straw-colored, much shorter than the blades, grooved adaxially, bearing a few deciduous pale brown scales, those toward base often with patches of dark sclerotic cells. Blades lance-linear or very narrowly elliptic, tapering to both ends from the middle or near the middle, 2-6 (-9) cm broad, deeply pinnatisect; rhachis grooved and glandular adaxially; segments numerous, the lower ones separate; middle (longest) segments narrowly oblong to oblong-deltate, 4-7 mm broad at the middle, the apex bluntly pointed or submucronate; veins simple or mostly 1 -forked, the basal ones often 2-forked, the tips not quite reaching the margins; tissue light green, thin. Sori sometimes discontinuous, often unequal in length, the acroscopic ones shorter than the basiscopic; indusium attached 0.4-0.8 mm from the costa, nanow, with minutely erose margin. Rhizomes erect or ascending, stoloniferous; rhizome scales bicolorous, central portion or apices lustrous red-brown, outer or basal part pale brown, 3–5(–9) x 0.8–1 mm, lanceolate, margins entire; fronds 10–55 cm long, clumped; stipes stramineous, 2–10(– 15) cm x 1–2 mm, 1/10–1/3 the frond length, smooth to papillate, at bases with scattered pale brown scales 2–3 mm long; blades thin-chartaceous, 14–30(–40) x (3–)4–6(–10) cm, pinnatisect, narrowly elliptic, proximal pinnae partially or completely adnate, often deflexed, distant and irregularly deltate, blade apices pinnatifid; rachises stramineous, with sparse scales 0.8–13 x 0.1– 0.3 mm, otherwise either glabrous or with dense, sticky, septate hairs 0.3–0.5 mm long, lacking aerophores at pinna bases; pinnae 18–40 pairs, 1.5–3(–5) x 0.6–1 cm at bases, 3–4(–6) mm wide inmiddle, linear-oblong, straight to often falcate, adnate, surcurrent and auriculate, apices acute, often apiculate, margins entire, abaxially the costae glabrous or hairy with sparse to dense septate hairs 0.1–0.3 mm, adaxially glabrous, with an intramarginal row of minute teeth, costae grooved to ungrooved; veins simple or 1-forked, with slightly enlarged vein endings visible adaxially; indusia red-brown, 0.5 mm wide, entire to erose; 2n =124 (Jam, Trin, Galapagos).
