Showy Nerveray is native to the lower 48 states and northern Mexico, especially the southeastern regions. It is in the plant family Asteraceae. The plant is an herbaceous flowering perennial wildflower suited to sandy acidic soils. Tetragonotheca repanda can grow up to 2 feet in height. It has a thick erect stem with tiny white hairs along the surface. flowering time is February through July. The foliage is glossy yellowish green with toothed or slightly fluted edges. The oval to lance shaped leaves grow from pronounced petioles and may be 1 to 4 inches long and 1 to 2 1/2 inches wide. Blooms are daisylike, with 6 to 21 long rayed bright yellow petals. They are enfolded by 4 grayish green bracts which open to frame the flower. The bracts are square when opened which leads to the group Tetragonotheca referenced as Squarehead. Inside the bracts and ray petals is a thick darker yellow corolla composed of 25 to 150 bisexual tubelike florets.
