Phyllobolus resurgens was first described and the name validly published by Harriet Margaret Louisa Kensit but was revised and reclassified by Martin Heinrich Gustav Schwantes in 1928.

This member of the Aizoaceae family is given this name by Harriet Margaret Louisa Bolus in 1964. It's found in southern South Africa, where it grows in grit with little water and quiet some sun. The swollen stem can grow to ten centimetres in diameter, the plant up to 20 centimetres in height. The flowers are yellow, and the plant can be reproduced both by cuttings and seeds.

The genera from Greek kephalē; 'head' and -manthus means 'flower'. The species name means 'to rice again'.

This is a winter-grower.
