Astilbe microphylla Knoll Chidakesashi Milk mushroom sashimi Endemic to
Japan (Chubu region of Honshu). It grows on sunny forest edges, grasslands, wetlands, and watersides.
Perennial. Height 40~80cm. There is a thick rhizome underground, erect stems. The leaves are 2~4 odd-pinnate compound leaves, deeply lobed. The apical lobule is ovate, 3~5 cm long, 2~3 cm wide, oval-shaped, the tip may be normal, blunt-headed, or sharp-headed, and the base is wedge-shaped. The base of the lateral lobules is cuneiform ~ incised. The leaf margin is heavily serrated. The inflorescences are elongated-conical, the branches are spaced apart, the lateral branches are short, the lateral branches except the bottom are not branched, the flowers are densely attached. Inflorescence axils and inflorescences branches are densely covered with glandular hairs. The peduncle is 2~3mm long and has glandular hairs. It has 5 petals, the petals are narrow, spatulate-shaped, pale reddish-purple ~ white, and the length is the same length as the stamens to slightly longer, 3 ~ 5 mm. There are 10 stamens, 2.5~3mm long. Anthers are pale reddish-purple ~ pale blue-purple. The fruit is 3~4mm long and dehisces twice when ripe.
