‘Flip Side’ is a unique hybrid resulting from a cross between Vitex trifolia ‘Purpurea’ and Vitex agnus-castus. It combines the best characteristics of both parent plants, such as a compact growth habit and deep purple flowers that attract pollinators. It’s also known for being a strong rebloomer.

 

Vitex trifolia purpurea is a stunning, shrubby tree that produces eye-catching purple foliage and stunning purple flowers during spring and summer. The clusters of small purple blooms attract butterflies and is an excellent nectar source for bees. Vitex are a highly attractive and versatile plant, ideal for hedging and suitable for topiary. It is an ideal accent shrub, and will add a pop of colour to those gardens lacking contrast. Plant in an area of full sun to part shade with moist, well drained soils. Vitex trifolia purpurea is relatively low maintenance. Keep moist during extended periods of dryness and prune lightly after flowering to maintain compact growth. Vitex trifolia purpurea can grow to a height of 4 metres and a width of 3 metres.

Flip Side® got its name because the greyish olive-green leaves are dusky purple on the lower surface. While 'Purpurea' is only hardy to Zone 9, Flip Side® has been consistently hardy in Zone 7.
