Leucocoryne – Glory Of The Sun
With a common name like ‘Glory of the Sun’ you get the hint that Leucocoryne likes a hot climate, and this is exactly what these early flowering perennials require. And if you like South American wildflowers, you will love Leucocoryne.
Leucocoryne or ‘Glory of the Sun’ are native to Chile and are suitable to warm climates. Easy to grow they are well suited to the rock garden.
One of the prettiest is Leucocoryne purpurea, mauve flowers marked on each of the six petals with crimson. Foliage is a mid green and best described fine and grass like. Others have blue flowers with a white centre, a good variety is available.
Most varieties have bi coloured flowers and in our climate are easy care. Most will reach around .5 m in height and these are sold as dormant bulbs. They are suited to growing in containers, as long as you have that sunny position.
