Helleborus x hybridus Double Ellen Red

 

An elegant, double hellebore with a creamy, yellow centre contrasting dramatically against deep-plum petals. Helleborus x hybridus 'Double Ellen Red' brings jewel-like blooms which hover above dark, leathery leaves - sure to delight all who happen to pass by during those days of late winter and early spring. Furthermore, these make excellent cut flowers - floating on a bowl of water as a table decoration or cut with long stems to join other blooms as a vase or bouquet.Hellebores provide a rich source of nectar for solitary bees, whose awakening from hibernation coincides neatly with the blooming of these winter flowers. We are not the only ones pleased to see them! Helleborus x hybridus 'Double Ellen Red' is a fully hardy, semi-evergreen, clump forming plant, which loves a semi-shaded spot underneath a tree or shrub and thrives in moist, well-drained soil. Deer and rabbit resistant, it has an eventual height and spread of approximately 40cm x 35cm. Cut back the large leaves of the previous year once new foliage and flowers start to appear in order to appreciate them in situ at their best.
