Description Life zones and habitat: Plains to foothills (3500 to 7800 ft); sandstone or limestone soils in exposed areas on flats, hillsides and ridges.
Plant: Low-growing perennial forming dense cushions, somewhat woody base; erect stems less than 1 to 6 inches long.
Leaves: Basal and stem leaves are needle-like, less than 5/8-inch long.
Inflorescence: Congested cymes at the tops the stems with several small, white blossoms; 5 petals about 1/3-inch long with rounded or blunt tips; protruding stamens and styles; pointed sepals are about the same length as the petals or somewhat longer.
Bloom Period: May to July.
