Remarks:

Habit globose, dense, erect branches, 1 m height. Evergreen, acicular leaves. Flowers gathered in a large apical chapter, those of the margin bilabiate with the outer lip liguliform with 3 teeth at the apex, pink lilacious, the inner bilabiate dark lilac. Fruit an achene with thick phallus.

It grows near the coast in arid places influenced by the camanchaca. It sprouts only in rainy years.

Monotypic endemic genus.
