A rare, small, dry deciduous tree to about 10 m tall with a swollen trunk, lobed, maple-like leaves and greenish white flowers followed by curious, winged fruits. Gyrocarpus mocinoi is native to dry tropical forest from southern Mexico to El Salvador between sea level and 1200 m. It would make a beautiful, drought tolerant ornamental for tropical and warm temperate climates in USDA Zones 10 and above.
