국표에는 없다.
Scientific Name: x Chiranthofremontia lenzii
Common Names: Hybrid Monkey Hand Tree
Family: Malvaceae
Plant Type: Tree
Environment: Our tree has shown to be quite drought tolerant and enjoys a sunny location, more similar to the Fremontodendron parent
Bloom: Profuse blooms for up to eight months
Uses: Small to medium tree makes for a good background plant in a garden setting
Other: Taxonomic research has shown recently that the name of this plant should be changed to x Chiranthomontodendron lenzii. This is due to the rule that bigeneric hybrids consist of a single word using the first part or the whole name of one parent, the last part or the whole of the other (but not the whole of both) and, optionally a connecting vowel. The common name, Fremontia, doesn't fulfill either of these and is, therefore, not a valid published name. The 'x' that precedes the botanical name is used for hybrids between genera (rather than species where the 'x' is placed between the genus and species). Often placed in the family Sterculiaceae, morphological and molecular data suggest placement in the Malvaceae (mallow family).
x Chiranthofremontia lenzii can be found in the Entry Garden (Bed 5C).

Austin Griffith produced this hybrid in the early 80’s by crossing the Mexican monkey hand tree, Chiranthodendron pentadactylon, with the California fremontia hybrid Fremontodendron ‘Pacific Sunset.’ Formally, it should be listed as x Chiranthomontodendron lenzii. In broad terms, one might say that it is most similar to the Mexican monkey hand tree in appearance, and more similar to fremontia in cultural needs. It grows as a single to multi-trunked tree in a rounded fairly open form to about 20 feet tall and 15 feet wide. The leaves are large, deep green and shiny on the upper surface. The blooms, which do combine the characteristics of both parent plants, cover the plant in the warm months with conspicuous flame-orange flourishes. Like the fremontia, the hybrid monkey hand tree does best in a sunny, well-draining site with little or no water once established. This ornate plant is a wonderful small tree, suitable as the centerpiece of a xeric planting.
