Nolana peruvianais one of the 49 species of the genusNolana present in Chile, of the nightshade family(Solanaceae).This particular species is endemic with a wide distribution on the coastal edge from theTarapacá Region to the Atacama Region inChile.2​

Nolana peruvianais described as a perennial subshrub, branchy and densely pubescent, globose in shape and forms spots. It is somewhat woody at its base. It is a dense yellow-gray plant.

It is characterized by having small flowers, not very abundant, these protrude a little from the calyx, they are white. Its cylindrical-globular calyx has five lobes. The corolla has 5 united bell-shaped petals, gamopetals, its corolla is usually white. The inner part of the flower or throat is greenish-yellow. It has 5 unequal stamens in size of greenish yellow color and mature anthers are pale yellow.

There are specimens whose corolla is lilac or purple and white-throated, with violet anthers, but it is still debated whether it is a subspeciesNolana peruviana (Gaudich.) I.M.Johnst. ssp. divaricata(Lindl.) Table

Its compound fruit, accreting, has 5 small nucules with 1 to 2 black seeds.

Nolana peruvianahas very expanded linear succulent leaves at the end that end in a globose sheet, has a short petiole. The shape of its leaves is the main characteristic of this species.

It grows in dry coastal sectors with stony or rocky soil, very close to the sea or in ravines influenced by coastal mists, with high solar radiation on flat terrain and sectors with northern exposure. It grows from 0 to 500 meters above sea level, in interior ravines with influence of the camanchaca can reach up to 2000 meters. This particular species requires the moisture of coastal fog Camanchaca. It does not resist frost. In the region of Antofagasta and Atacama it blooms with greater intensity in periods of flowering desert. It inhabits a climate of USDA hardiness equivalent to zones 10 and 11.
