Description:	Shrub or small tree up to c.8 m. Leaves: petiole usually 10-23 mm; lamina up to 18 ± 7 cm, obovate-elliptic to oblong-obovate upper surface bullate, eglandular; lower surface whitish with prominent nerves; base cuneate; apex rounded (in var. galpinii) margin often irregularly dentate towards apex. Male capitula with 10-16 florets. Female capitula with 1 floret; achenes c.2.5-3(-5) mm, ± flattened-obovoid, densely covered in long, sericeous-woolly hairs.
