Leptocereus paniculatus is a species of plant in the Cactaceae family. The species epithet paniculatus comes from Latin, means 'panicle-like' and refers to richly branched plants.
Leptocereus paniculatus grows tree-shaped with a richly branched crown and reaches heights of 6 to 10 meters and more. A woody trunk is formed, which reaches a diameter of up to 30 centimeters. The shoots, which appear from the parts of older shoots near the tip, reach diameters of 4 to 6 centimeters. There are usually four, sometimes six, thin, notched, up to 2.5 centimeters high ribs present or the shoots are winged. The twelve to 20 perennial needle-like spines are brownish to gray and 2 to 5 centimeters long.
The tubular straight and greenish white flowers appear terminal from densely felted, cephalium-like formations and open at night. They are up to 5 centimeters long. Their pericarpel and flower tube are covered with small scales, some wool and few or no bristles. The elongated green fruits are almost bare. They are 6 to 7 centimeters long and have diameters of 4 to 5.5 centimeters.
