Aloidendron dichotomumper & Gideon F.Sm., known as quiver tree (kokerboom in Afrikaans), is a species of aloe widespread in the Cape Provinces (South Africa) and Namibia. The common name refers to the fact that its branches and leaves are used by the Bushmen (who call the plant choje) to build quivers for their arrows.
The trunk of A. dichotomum can reach 7 m, and has a surface covered by extremely sharp scales. The branches are smooth and whitish by a powder produced by the plant, which is intended to protect them from solar heat. The branches fork repeatedly (hence the name dichotomum, "divided into two") and give rise to an overall roundish crown. The leaves, green and navy, are located at the ends of the branches, and are narrow and pointed. In early winter (June-July), it produces flowers of a bright yellow color.
A. dichotomum can live over 80 years.
