Broadleaf evergreen shrub, may reach 7 ft (2 m) tall. Leaves are alternate, palmate lobed, large (40 cm (~15 in.) or more); with a speckled white variegation especially near the edges but it may cover the entire blade. Reportedly variegation can change with plant age and season. Small white flowers appear in spherical clusters in fall followed by black fruit.
Full shade preferable. Best in moist, acid high in organic matter soils, but tolerates light-sandy and heavy-clay soil.
