Thymus pulegioides 'Aureus', commonly known as Golden Large Thyme, is an evergreen, spreading shrub with yellow, rounded to oval, aromatic leaves. Clusters of two-lipped, purple-pink flowers appear in mid-summer. It has also be known as Thymus citriodorus 'Aureus' and Thymus 'Golden Lemon', and suits being grown in herb and kitchen gardens for its medicinal and edible properties. This sun-loving plant also suits being grown as an edging plant at the front of mixed borders, on mass in containers and included in planting schemes for rock, gravel and Mediterranean styles. This cultivar has earned a Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Award of Garden Merit. It is also part of the RHS “Plants for Pollinators” initiative to showcase plants that support pollinator populations by providing ample nectar and pollen.
