Aster “Blaue Lagune”

 

Alpine plants do not get so tall, this asters becomes about 30 cm and form a tue with light purple flowers. Although it is alpine, it thrives quite well in ordinary garden soil. It blooms in early summer and can be finely planted in a jar.

Aster dumosus “Blaue Lagune” – Thy til stauder

This bright blue-violet bushy aster is a species with slightly larger flowers and a yellow centre. Aster dumosus spreads via underground shoots, but does not proliferate as some other tall-growing varieties of aster. Thus they form dense cushions with a height of about 30 to 40 cm, which are covered with flowers from the beginning of August to October. These make a nice contrast to the dark green foliage. This aster tolerates dry locations as well as slightly moist sites with moderate nutrient levels. However, the locations should be bright and sunny. To prevent mildew it should be planted in an airy space in beds. This aster is particularly well suited for the enclosure of a perennial bed or in the foreground of larger plantings as a flowering carpet in combination with other cushion perennials and medium-high grasses. Even in larger containers this plant can be a real eye-catcher in combination with other autumn perennials. It is extremely durable as a cut flower. It is a good and late supplier of nectar for bees and bumble bees.
