Ananas comosus var. microstachys

An ornamental miniature pineapple suitable for growing in brightly lit spots in the garden or pots. Fruits are generally 3 to 5cm.

Typical height: 30 to 50cm

Climate: Grows well in most parts of Australia

Light conditions:  Full sun to part shade

Growth habit: Clumping, epiphytic

Growing conditions: Well drained soil

Flowers: Summer

A delightful little collectors plant with showy pink flowers followed by miniature pineapple-like fruit. 

Very useful variety in parts of the garden that have nooks or crannies that need filling.

Being epiphytic like Orchids and Air-Plants, it is well suited to growing on logs, stumps or hanging baskets. Very low maintenance plant. Responds well to applications of liquid fertiliser.
