Tradescantia x andersoniana ‘Blushing Bride’

Tradescantia x andersoniana ‘Blushing Bride’ is a trailing, tender perennial with pink and white variegated new growth that displays three-petaled, white flowers tinged with lilac pink. Leaves turn completely green when mature.

Use Spiderwort as a groundcover, in mixed containers, or grow as a houseplant. Plant in humus rich, moist, well-drained soil. Cut back often to encourage dense, new growth.

This plant has so many things going for it! Chief among its virtues is the fantastic variegation -- bright pink splashed across half a leaf, reminiscent of the much more expensive (and much slower growing) pink princess philodendron. Please note that the variegation is strongest in the spring, and there may be times that the new growth appears green. But rest assured, the bright pink will return :)

Each leaf is different, and the variegation changes as the leaf ages. A single branch of this plant is fantastic to watch as it grows, but this plant is also stunning en masse in a hanging planter (indoors or out in warmer weather and partial shade) or even as an annual ground cover. It is not frost hardy, although some say it will rebound after a light frost (I have not risked this!) It makes a lovely houseplant, and that's the only way I've grown it.
