It is native to Amapá, Mata Atlântica, Ceará, Paraíba, Maranhao, Amazônia, Amazônia, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio de Janeiro, Mato Grosso, Pará, Pernambuco, Paraná, Espirito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, Sergipe, Santa Catarina, Rondônia, Alagoas, Acre (Brazil), Roraima, and Bahia. Prosthechea fragrans is a photoautotroph.
