This soft cactus has a dark green body. It becomes bronzed purple in full sunlight. a very decorative variety . Its has characterized by brown-felted areoles, bears bristly brown spines and has small dark red flowers with white filaments. Maximum dimensions 6 cm tall.

Origin: Bolivia and Argentina
Blooming time: Diurnal in spring.
Cultivation and propagation: Needs a very bright exposure but not direct sun. Water regularly in summer but do not over-water. Keep dry in winter. Hardy to -4°C.
Propagation: Offsets, seeds

It is better that they be re potted regularly. Re potting will increase the number and size of stems, and will increase the number of flowers produced. Re pot yearly until reaching about 40-50 mm in size, then every two or three years will suffice. Re potting is best done at the end of winter, but it can be done at other times, too. Do not water for a couple of weeks after re potting, to reduce risk of root rot via broken roots.
