Dendrobium hancockii
Dendrobium hancockii is native to China. Near Mengtze (Mong-tse) in the Province of Yunnan, these orchids grow on rocks at heights of 1850-2150 m. They are also found near Kangting in the Sichuan Province, at an altitude of about 1600 m.
Dendrobium hancockii, also called as Hancock's Dendrobium, is a species of the genus Dendrobium. This species was described by Robert Allen Rolfe in 1903.
It is a medium sized, hot to cool growing epiphytic orchid, which reaching a height of 15-30 cm, with slender, occasionally branching, 15-30 cm long stems carrying linear, 2.2 to 2.8" (6 to 7 cm) long, unequally bidentate apically leaves.
Hancock's Dendrobium blooms in the spring and early summer on a short, axillary, 1 to 2 flowered, fragrant inflorescence that arises from the apical leaf axils of last years mature canes and occurring in the spring with strongly scented (honey) flowers. The yellow flowers are 2 cm long. The oval petals of both whorls are sharp.
