A native throughout Africa, Dracaena (also know as 'Corn Plant') is a common houseplant and often seen in offices and airports due to its ease of care. A member of the Agavaceae family, it's a slow growing plant which eventually will reach 4' feet tall. The Dracaena deremensis 'Dorado' is a beautiful cultivar with long, dark green leaves with a yellow border.  It is a great choice for a low to moderate lit area but will also do well in high lighting. In lower light conditions, this plant will also need less water.  In brighter lighting, it can use more water, but in general it is better to keep this plant on the drier side. A well-drained soil containing a good amount of perlite or lava rock should be used.  If it sheds a few bottom leaves over the course of the year, this is normal.  If it sheds a few leaves within a few months or so, this is usually a sign of overwatering.
