Clematis 'Candida' is an early large-flowered, semi-woody, climbing vine that typically grows 8-12’ tall. It is a hybrid clematis whose parents are C. lanuginosa and C. patens. Very large, single, white flowers (to 7-9” diameter) with creamy white to yellow anthers bloom on both old growth (May to June) and new growth (June to September). Many gardeners consider this vine to have its best show of blooms on the new growth, and therefore elect to prune it under group 3 which eliminates old growth bloom. Branches are clad with bipinnate to pinnate-compound dark green leaves. Flowers are followed by silver-gray seed heads.
