General Description

Peruvian verbena is a very low and spreading flowering perennial that offers super vibrant red flowers with small white centers. This easy to grow tender perennial will bloom continuously from late spring through summer and often into fall with good care. It originates from Argentina, Brazil, and Chile where it inhabits open areas and uplands. In frost free zones with hot dry summers it may bloom more in winter and early spring when rainfall is most prevalent.

Small green leaves cover this plant throughout the year. When growing conditions are favorable it produces lots of round, flattened clusters of velvety cherry red flowers with white eyes. The tubular, five-petaled blooms draw butterflies in droves. Remove the spent flowers to make way for new.

This verbena needs full sun for best growth and flowering. It grows best in well drained soil that is moderately fertile. Regular water will encourage heavy flowering, so refrain from letting this verbena get too dry. This fast-growing verbena is one of the most cold hardy of the South American species and is parent to many popular hybrid cultivars on the market. Where tender, it can be planted as an annual.
