Habit: deciduous, highly branched shrub up to 2 m tall, glabrous, with arching branches. Leaves: alternate, deciduous, simple, with short petioles; blade 2-3 cm long, ovate, elliptic-rhombic or obovate, with 3 ± parallel veins from its base, irregularly crenate-dentate in its distal half, sometimes almost three-lobed, somewhat glaucous. Flowers: hermaphrodite, actinomorphic, perigynous, 6-7 mm in diam., arranged in corymbiform cymes 2-5 cm in diam., formed by multiple flowers, growing at the apex of leafy lateral twigs; sepals 5, free; petals 5, white; stamens numerous, shorter than the petals; gynoecium apocarpous, 3-5 carpellate, with pistils and a half-inferior ovary. Fruit: aggregate follicle with 3-5 fruitlets (follicles) containing several seeds.
