Ecology: deciduous, heliophyte, rustic species, endemic to Brazil and native to the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest domains, in mountainous and elevated regions (between 700 and 2400 m altitude), mainly secondary formations. It occurs from grassland formations, such as rupestrian fields and high-altitude grasslands, savannahs (the Cerrado itself) to forests, such as riparian forests and semideciduous seasonal forests. It does not have the rapid growth and short life cycle typical of pioneers.

It has wide dispersion and forms clusters (candeais), formations environmentally associated with larger forests, and there is evidence that they protect them from fires and edge effects. It is very common on forest edges, so it has significant rusticity and resistance to high light, heat and stronger winds.

It is similar and easily confused with the bush lamp (Moquiniastrum polymorphum), but does not have whitish hairiness on the flower branches. We can also include in the list the species E. arboreus, E. auriculatus, E. brevifolius, E. capitatus and E. polycephalus;

Size: tree 6 to 10 m high, formed by a rounded and not very robust crown and supported by a tortuous trunk, up to 35 cm in diameter, endowed with thick, suberous and longitudinally fissured bark;

 

Foliage: green leaves, somewhat elliptical, with entire margins, glabrous on the upper side and very tomentous on the lower, discolored (white or gray on the underside), supported by short petioles;

Flowering: inflorescences formed by many glomeruli and hundreds of cream-to-brownish capitulums, supported by a tomentose peduncle and formed between winter and the first half of spring;

Fruiting: tiny achene, dispersed by the wind between winter and spring:
