Hypochaeris uniflora is a species of flowering plant in the Asteraceae family.
Description
Vegetative traits
The one-headed piglet herb is a deciduous, perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 15 to 50 centimetres. The stem is erect, simple, one-headed, rarely two-headed, abundantly stiffly hairy, leafless or spareless.
The stem leaves are stiff and grey-felted hairy. A basal leaf rosette is formed from two to seven leaves, which are always present for the anthesis. The basal leaves are unpedunculated, lanceolate to narrowly ovate, irregular and distantly toothed, coarsely hairy and always unspotted.
Generative characteristics
The flowering period extends from July to September. On each sparsely leafed stem there is only one terminal basket-shaped inflorescence. The end of the stem is strongly thickened below the flower cup. The shell is almost spherical. The blackish frizzy-haired outer and middle bracts are lanceolate and irregularly fringed with a length of 20 to 25 mm. The middle bracts are only finely pointed. On the bottom of the basket there are linear-plucked chaff leaves. The flower basket has a diameter of 3.5 to 6 cm – measured with the flowers spread out. The flower cups contain only tongue flowers, which are hermaphrodite and light golden yellow.
The 1.5 cm long achenes end in a 3 to 4 mm long beak. The pappus consists of a single row of yellowish-white, feathery bristles.
The chromosome count is 2n = 10.
