General Information
Herb or subshrub to 1 m, from woody taproot, the stems stiffly erect, divaricate, one to few, wiry, and brittle, angled (becoming terete near base), villosulose, puberulous to glabrate. Stipules minute, linear, acuminate, caducous, 1 mm long, 0.5 mm wide. Petioles puberulous, subobsolete to 3 mm. Leaflets 3, coriaceous, elliptic to oval-obovate, acute to obtuse, frequently apiculate, base cuneate, margins slightly revolute, 5-20 mm long, 4-10 mm wide, finely strigulose above, gland-dotted and puberulous beneath, densely so along midvein and leaflet margin, terminal petiolule 1-3 mm, the laterals subobsolete to 1 mm, stipels lacking. Inflorescences fasciculate, of a single flower (rarely 2-3 per axil), rarely exceeding the leaves, 7-15 mm, non-branching, peduncle subobsolete to 1 mm pedicels 3-5 mm. Bracts ovate-lanceolate, acute, caducous, 1-1.5 mm long, 0.5-1 mm wide. Calyx not exceeding the corolla, hirsutulous, 5-8 mm, tube 1.5-3 mm, lobes lanceolate, acuminate, 4-5.5 mm, vexillar sinus 1-1.5 mm. Corolla yellow, veined purple, 9-11 mm. Standard obovate to orbicular, emarginate, glabrous, 7-10 mm long, 7-8 mm wide, auricles 0.5-1 mm, claw 1-1.5 mm. Wings narrowly oblong, glabrous, 8.5-10 mm long, 2-2.5 mm wide, claw 1-2 mm. Keel blades falcate, glabrous, 9-10 mm long, 4-5 mm wide, claw 2-3 mm. Stamens 10-12 mm. Fruits oblong or oblong-lancolate, tapering to the base, compressed, puberulous, 1-2 cm long, 5-9 mm wide, beak 1-1.5 mm. Seeds subglobose, brown, black, or mottled, compressed, 2-3 mm long, 2-3 mm wide, hilum ovate, 0.5-1 mm, strophiole lobes cuneate.
