Found in Minas Gerais state of Brazil growing directly on rocks in small cracks and crevasses at elevations of 1500 to 1600 meters as a rupicolus, miniature sized, cool growing lithophyte with small, maroon flushed, globose pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, stiff, coriaceous, maroon flushed, ovate-lanceolate, acute leaf that blooms in the fall and winter on a terminal, erect, 8 to 10" [20 to 25 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence.

Distinguishing characteristics of this species are the shorter to just barely longer than the leaf inflorescence and the column that is markedly broader at the base and flowers that arise in the spring
